Subject: Methods for Idea Generation

Mr. Cooper, Greetings from a fellow inventor (albeit, of admittedly limited success) from across the pond! I was hoping you might share effective methods for the generation of ideas, that is to say, how one might go about the business itself of inventing things? I've tried a technique of staring at discoloration and/or mold on the wall and/or ceiling for varying (i.e., 3 min-1.5 hrs.) spans of time, as I've heard Da Vinci et. al. employed these methods vigorously and to prolific ends. Unfortunately, I've found such exercises nauseating and inducing what could only be described as states of microscopic existential terrorism. In any event, tips on safe and effective methods of invention for the novice inventor would certainly be welcome! Much thanks, and keep up the fine work!

Following your subliminal suggestion to stare at things so as to invent other things, I have invented the cirumnoggin in twenty seven minutes and thirteen seconds. I have also upset five neighbours, who are disturbed by my staring. I write this on my silver grey laptop whilst hiding under my stairs. They are outside knocking on my windows.

I may have just the thing for you as I have recently invented a computer programme designed specifically to create inventions. I can't say too much at the moment as I want to take it onto Dragon's Den, but I can tell you that one of the first questions I asked it was how to come up with inventions- and it suggested itself! In fact that's how I invented it.

One of the most reliable methods of idea generation is to be a bit mad. Even better, being German and mad is a virtual guarantee of success. When I say 'a bit mad', I don't mean in the "mein trousers are made of welded steel" way, but rather in the "mein Doomday Bomb renders der worlds entire stockpile of nuclear bombs obsolete". In other worlds, relatively sane, but in continued need of motherly supervision.
